Over the past few years, there has been a drastic increase in the number of animal posts I see on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter. It has gotten to the point that owner's are setting their dogs with their own account. More people are following the cute, fluffy animals than there are that follow the owner. "Marnie the dog" is a 14 year old Shih Tzu living in New York City. As you can see in the picture below, his profile is set up from Marnie's perspective. I'm sure you also noticed that Marnie has 2 million. Yes, I said MILLION. This new trend is catching on so fast and many of my friends have adopted it. In today's crazy, messed up, violent world, it's nice to see the sweet, innocent face of someone like Marnie. I have considered creating an Instagram for my dog, Gidget, because she gets more likes on any pictures than I do. It's a little frustrating and I'm jealous (jk) The only reason I haven't made one yet is because I'm selfish and want her preciousness all to myself.
I have also noticed and become aware of the huge increase of social media profiles for animals. Some of my friends have Instagrams for their dog and I feel almost obligated to follow them when they follow me. Sometimes the posts are adorable and sometimes I feel like it's such a waste of time for the owners to do this. However, I feel like it's such a good way for people to practice their writing (or typing) and picture posting. Overall, I think this trend is only going to increase over time as social media platforms become even more prevalent.

ReplyDeleteI too follow a lot of instagram accounts featuring animals and it really brightens up my day. I love that people post their cute dogs, cats, etc on social media for everyone to see. There are some very good looking animals out there and without these people we wouldn't be able to enjoy their photos. I follow this one cat name gorge_clooney and I laugh every time is see a picture of him. Also, you should definately post pictures of your dog so the world can see!
