Fluffy Cows Go Viral

How often do you scroll through Twitter and see pictures of cute, little animals and say "Awww, I WANT ONE!" If you're like me, it's every time you get on. Well for once, you can make that dream a reality. Just look at these #fluffycows. Thousands of people scrolled through their social media and saw these giant teddy bear-like animals, did some research, and found out that they could purchase one in Iowa. Located in Adel, Iowa, Lautner Farms is home to these squeezable animals.

So why are they so fluffy? Two hours. Two hours is why they are so fluffy. In order to get these cows ready for show, they get pampered for more than double the amount it time it takes for me to get ready. They get washed, combed, and dried up to twice a day. Talk about spoiled. These "fluffy cows" get all this special treatment in order to be shown at county fairs. Such an innocent reason to gain so much attention, right?!

The best part about this story is that it wasn't even the farm's intention to go viral on social media. In fact, they didn't even know they were trending. It was a shock to everyone. Some random person found the farm's website with pictures of their fluffy herds. They posted it on Reddit and BOOM, the cows have since gone viral.

Although it wasn't Lautner Farm's intention to get recognized on social media, they are trying their best to use it to their advantage. While it is nice that people now know about them, they are only seeing "fluffy cows," nothing more. The farm is using this knew trend to inform and hold conversations about cattle farming today. Similar to what we say with humans, there is much more to these fuzzy animals than just a pretty face.

  1. Wow thank you for sharing! I had no idea these cows were part of Lautner Farms and how much prep work it takes to make them look this way. I have seen these cows every where on social media and I think they are so cute and hilarious. This just shows the power of social media and how something so simple can go viral in a matter of hours.

  2. Great post! I think it really is cool how quickly things can go viral these days, especially random things like cows. Just like the people at Lautner Farms, it typically isn't any person's intention to go viral, it just kind of happens. We are so well connected with our social media and technology, so anything that captures our attention can become "news" in a matter of hours.

  3. Wow! I have never seen these cows before and I am an avid animal follower on Instagram. These cows are so fluffy. Going viral is such a wild concept to me because it only takes minutes before something is spread everywhere- it shows how quickly technology is able to move things.

  7. This post is so funny! To be honest, I've never though of cows as particularly cute animals, I really enjoyed seeing the pictures of fluffy cows. So many things go viral that just seem completely random and come from out of nowhere. It must be the best publicity that Lautner Farms has ever had, even if they didn't initially plan for it! Thanks for the humorous post. :)

  8. This is a really amusing article. I am not on Twitter anymore, so this is the first time I have heard about the fluffy cow phenomenon. It's interesting to me how in this day and age something has to become popular by some other means, such as just being a cute animal, before people understand it for what it is, i.e. a show cow in a county fair. I guess that is why hashtags and trending topics have such a huge impact on what is being talked about, because they bring awareness to so many different things, including fluffy cows.

  9. Oh gosh these are so cute. I am not going to lie, I was really hoping that the cows were just naturally like this and not due to a long grooming. you made a great point, it is crazy how things are able to take off like that.
